In a first this week Benchmark indices end in green, Sensex rises 166 pts, Nifty adds 42.40 its

Market outlook today: Reliance securities

 

After four days of losing streak in a row, the Domestic Benchmark Indices on Friday ended in the green with increase in purchase of pharmaceuticals stocks along with Realty and NBFC transactions. The Gains were capped by selling pressure in metal stocks.

RIL and ICICI Bank stocks helped the Sensex to break the four-day losing streak even as Tata Steel dropped 2 per cent.

Banking Stocks gained on Friday as the RBI in its Financial Stability Report said the lenders’ gross NPA percentage could go up to 9.8 per cent baseline by March 2022. Midcap and smallcap stocks remained in demand.

The 30-share pack Sensex rose 166.07 points or 0.32 per cent to close at 52,484.67 while its broader peer Nifty at NSE added 42.40 or 0.27 per cent to settle at 15,722.20.

Among the top companies, Divi’s Labs was the topmost gainer, rising 2.04 per cent. Reliance Industries Ltd, ICICI Bank, Coal India, Tata Consumer, Adani Ports and Indian Oil were the other gainers.

Tata Steel emerged as the big loser in the Nifty pack, dropping 2.20 per cent. Others ending in the Red were JSW Steel, Britannia, Power Grid, Grasim, Hindalco, Asian Paints, Bajaj Auto, Nestle India and Bajaj Finserv.

Broader market indices ended higher, outperforming their headline peers. Nifty Smallcap added 1.07 per cent and Nifty Midcap climbed 0.51 per cent. Nifty 500, the broadest Index on NSE, ended with an increase of 0.30 per cent.

The top gainers from madcap and smallcap indices were Tata Chemicals, Hindustan Aeronautics, Trent, Sterling Wilson Solar, IOL Chemcals and Pharma and Welspun Industries, rising by 5 to 8 per cent.

The major losers from broader market were Adani Total Gas, JSW Energy, Vodafone Idea, KEC International, Quess Corps and KEI Industries, stepping down by 2 to 5 per cent.

The Market breadth was in favour of gainers as 1907 stocks ended in the green while 1305 others settled with cuts. A total of 444 securities hit the 52-week highs mostly from smallcap segment. Twentythree stocks hit 52-week lows mostly from microcap space. About 505 stocks touched the upper circuit limits and 275 others lower circuit limits.
