Sensex rises 1.34 per cent to close at 41,893.06, Nifty touches 12,263.65

Hopes of Corona Vaccine pushes Sensex up 429 points

 

Mumbai : BSE Sensex on Friday rose 552.90 points or 1.34 per cent to close at 41,893 extending the rally for the fifth day in succession while NSE’s Nifty rose 143.25 points or 1.18 per cent to 12,263.55. 

In the 50-share pack Nifty, Reliance Industries that witnessed investment from Saudi PIF in its retail arm was the biggest gainer, up 2.79 per cent. Among the major gainers were Tata Motors, M&M, Titan, Britannia, UPL, Bajaj Auto and NTPC.

Among the top losers in the pack were GAIL down by 0.80 per cent, Power Grid, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Dr Reddy’s Laboratories, Axis Bank and Nestle India and Tech Mahindra.

Among the gainers were Godrej Properties, Gujarat Gas, RBL Bank, Birla Corporation, Dixon Technologies and Kaveri Seeds while stocks under selling pressure were Cholamandalam Investment and Finance, Sun TV, Torrent Power, Alok Industries, PVR and Inox Leisure.

Investors are looking up at US Election results. Experts said that investors are hoping Democrat Joe Biden would beat Donald Trump and that the Republicans would be able to retain control of the Senate thereby allowing them to block the agenda of the Democrats such as hike in corporate taxes and huge borrowing for large spendings.

In the coming days, investors would keep a watch on the US elections which is yet to be declared as counting is going on in some states.

Meanwhile, RBI is expected to release deposit growth, bank loan growth and forex deserve data later today.
