Mumbai : The 30-pack Sensex touched a high of 48,558.34 and a low of 48,037.87 to finally settle at 48,093.32 at close. Nifty was just below the 14,150 mark, Midcap index rose 1 per cent.
Infosys, HUL and Bank stocks led the market fall.
Eighteen of the 30 Sensex stocks ended the day in the red.
Among the index contributors were Infosys, HUL, ICICI Bank, Kotak Bank, ITC.
The top index gainers included Bharti Airtel (3.60 per cent), IndusInd Bank (3.21 per cent), Axis Bank (2.37 per cent).
The top index losers were Titan (1.92 per cent), Nestle (1.89 per cent), HUL (1.76 per cent),
All BSE Sectoral indices except FMCG, IT, Utilities, Health Care and Power ended the day in the green.
S&P BSE METAL was the biggest Sectoral gainer, up 3.70 per cent.
S&P BSE FMCG was the biggest sectoral loser, down 1.07 per cent.
Among the volume toppers were Asian Paints, HDFC, Bharti Airtel, RIL, IndusInd Bank.
