The Rupee hit a record low of 83.06 against US dollar in the opening trade on Thursday, mainly due to stronger greenback overseas and outstanding foreign fund outflows.
This, coupled with a sell-off in domestic equities and investors being influenced by risk-averse sentiments, also outweighed the Indian currency, says a PTI report.
At the interbank foreign exchange, the Rupee opened weak at 83.05 against the Greenback, later slipped further to touch 83.06, registering a fall of 6 paise over its previous close. In the previous session, the Indian currency plunged 60 paise to end at 83 against the US dollar.
The dollar index, which measures, the greenback’s strength against a basket of six currencies, rose 0.07 to 113.06.
In the previous session, Foreign Institutional investors were the net sellers in the capital market, offloading shares worth Rs 453.91 crores.
