The Election Commission of India announced that the Lok Sabha poll would be scheduled for March 9, Saturday. Last week, Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora had said that general elections in the country will be held on time.
Arora told reporters in Lucknow that the election in the country would be held on time when asked about the poll schedule in the midst of tensions between India and Pakistan.
He said that according to the decision of the commission, candidates will have to give details of properties owned abroad and well as inside the country.
The CEC even said that the I-T department would look into it and discrepancies if any will be uploaded onto the Election Commission (EC) website and strict action would be taken.
Sunil Arora even said that the commission would undertake fair polls and will take action against any complaint with regards to this.
He even added that all the 1,63,331 polling centres would use VVPAT machines during the voting period.
