Although several countries around the world continued to report the cases of Omicron, the latest version of Coronavirus, domestic share market, in a volatile session on Tuesday, traded on a positive note with Sensex increasing 497 points mainly due to gains in IT, Metal and Realty stocks.
The 30-share pack BSE index rose 497 points or 0.89 per cent to close at 56,319 while its broader Peer Nifty went upwards 156 points or 0.94 per cent to end at 16,771 points.
The top gainers in the Sensex pack included HCL Tech, Wipro, Tata Steel, Titan and Tech Mahindra with the stocks rising upto 3.91 per cent.
On the other hand, the losers included Power Grid, Axis Bank, Bajaj Finance, SBI, M&M, dropping upto 1.5 per cent.
At NSE, Nifty Media, Metal, Consumer Durables, and IT gained upto 2.94 per cent.
According to Stock Exchange data, Foreign Institutional Investors were the net sellers in the Market as they sold shares worth Rs 3565.36 crore today.
