Sensex touches new high of 48,437.78, Nifty reaches near 14,200

Mumbai : The 30-share pack Sensex on Tuesday touched a new high of 48,486.24 and a low of 47,903.38 to finally settle at 48,437.78.

The Sensex took the winning run to the tenth day on Tuesday going up 261 points while Nifty was close to 14,200.

Axis Bank rallied 6 per cent and HDFC 3 per cent.

Financials and TCS led the market rally.

Seventeen of the 30 Sensex stocks ended the day in the green.

Among the index contributors were HDFC, Axis Bank, ICICI Bank.

The top index gainers were Axis Bank (6.48 per cent), HDFC (2.78 per cent), IndusInd Bank (2.71 per cent).

The top Index losers were ONGC (1.86 per cent),, Bajaj Finance (1.56 per cent), NTPC (1.26 per cent).

S&P BSE BANKEX was the biggest sectoral gainer, up 1.48 per cent.

S&P BSE METAL was the biggest sectoral loser, down 1.36 per cent.

Among the volume toppers were Axis Bank, Bajaj Finance, RIL, HDFC, TCS.
