Sensex touches a new high of 44,523.02, Nifty crosses 13,000 mark for first time

Hopes of Corona Vaccine pushes Sensex up 429 points

 

Mumbai : Sensex touched a high of 44,601.63 and a low of 44,247.12 to settle at 44,523.02 on Tuesday ending 446 points higher.

Nifty touched a new high of 13,055 with Axis bank and M&M rising 3 per cent each.

Banks and RIL led the Markets rally. 24 of the 30 Sensex stocks ended the day in the green.

The index contributors were HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, RIL, Axis Bank, ITC among others.

The top index gainers were Axis Bank (4.01 per cent), HDFC Bank (3.47 per cent), M&M (3.15 per cent).

The top index losers were Titan (1.36 per cent), HDFC (1.31 per cent), Nestle (0.71 per cent).

All BSE Sectoral indices, except Telecom, ended the day in green.

S&P BSE Telecom was the biggest sectoral loser, down 0.23 per cent.

Among the volume toppers were HDFC, RIL, Bajaj Finance, HDFC Bank and Bajaj Finserv.

Nifty crossed 13,000 mark for the first time. In the 50-share pack Nifty, Adani was the biggest gainer, up 3.32 per cent. Maruti Suzuki, Eicher Motors, M&M, Tata Motors, HDFC Bank, ITC and HCL Tech were among the gainers. 

The claims of Pharma Giant AstraZeneca of a cheaper vaccine gave a boost to the market which ignored rise in Corona cases the world over.

AstraZeneca claimed its Covid-19 vaccine was cheaper to make and easier to distribute than its rivals and could be 90 per cent effective.

US business showed signs of recovery in November and indicated fastest rate in more than 5 years, even as Biden was Monday given a go-ahead by a Federal agency to begin transition to the White House.
