Sensex falls, Nifty rises marginally amidst weak Global hues & slow growth

 

Slow growth and weaker global hues dragged the domestic benchmark indices in the red on Thursday. Selling pressures were noticed across the sectors amidst high volatility. 

The 30-share pack Sensex dropped 485.82 points or 0.92 per cent to close at 52,568.94 while its broader peer NSE Nifty climbed 151.75 points or 0.96 per cent to 15,727.90.

Among the top companies, Tech Mahindra was the largest gainer, rising 1.39 per cent. The other gainers were SBI Life Insurance, Eicher Motors, Bajaj Auto, IndusInd Bank, HCL Tech and Power Grid.

In the Nifty pack, Tata Motors was among the top losers, dropping 3.45 per cent. JSW Steel,  Hindalco, Tata Steel, ONGC, SBI, Sun Pharma, ICICI Bank, Dr Reddy’s Lab and Kotak Mahindra Bank also ended in the Red.

Market breadth was in favour of the losers as 1448 stocks ended in the Green while 1738 others settled in the Red, In all, 378 stocks hit the 52-week highs, mostly from smallcap space.

Seventeen other stocks hit the 52-week lows, mostly from microchip space. A total of 410 stocks hit the upper circuit limits and 245 lower circuit limits.

Barring Nifty IT which gained marginally, all the sectoral indices on NSE ended the day in the Red. Nifty Metal was the biggest loser, falling 2.9 per cent followed by Nifty PSU Bank which fell 1.96 per cent.
