Sensex closes at 46,006.69, Nifty moves up to 13,466.30 in volatile market

Hopes of Corona Vaccine pushes Sensex up 429 points

 

Mumbai : As markets remained volatile on Tuesday, the 30-share pack Sensex added 452.73 points or 0.99 per cent to close at 46,006.69 while NSE Nifty moved upwards 137.90 points or 1.03 points to 13,466.30. India VIX dipped about 5 per cent.

IT and Pharma led the rally as markets remained volatile throughout the day. In the largercaps, Adani Ports was the biggest gainer, up 5.55 per cent while HCL Tech, Tech Mahindra, Infosys, Sun Pharma, JSU Steel, Divi’s labs, Wipro and Power Grid were among the other gainers.

Kotak Mahindra Bank, HDFC, Bajaj Finance, Ultra Tech Cement, IndusInd Bank, Reliance industries and Hindalco were among the stocks which traded in the red.

Broader markets recovered and underperformed their headline peers. Nifty smallcap climbed 0.77 per cent and Nifty Midcap rose 0.85 per cent. Nifty500 the broader Index on NSE was up 1.02 per cent.

Investors became richer by 2.01 lakh crore as total market capitalization of BSE-listed firms rose to Rs 180.81 lakh crore.

A majority of US house of Representatives voted to move a $900 Billion Coronavirus aid bill struck by Cong leaders for a vote on passage on Monday evening. Economists expect the package to support the pandemic-ravaged economy and go for a stronger economic recovery next year as vaccines would become available.

Market breadth was in favor of gainers as 1569 stocks ended in the green while 1352 stocks settled with cuts. A total of 118 securities hit the 52-week highs, mostly from small caps segment.
