Sensex at 42597, Nifty at 12,561 points touch new time high

 

Mumbai : Benchmark equity indices Sensex and Nifty logged new time highs on Monday in keeping with firm global hues after Democrat Joe Biden won the American Presidential election and strong aspirations of domestic investors. 

Sensex closed 1.68 per cent or 704 points higher at 42,597 points while Nifty rose 198 points to close at 12,561 points.

A total of 331 stocks on the BSE 500 index settled the day in green while 165 closed the day in red.

Momentum indicator Moving  Average Convergence (MACD) showed bullish trade with the stocks of Jain Irrigation, Tech Mahindra,  Karnataka Bank, Parag Milk Foods, Meghmani Organics, Godrej Consumer, Titan Company Adnani Transmission, Lemon Tree hotels, Kesoram Industries, HUDCO, IIFL Securities among others.

However, MACD showed bearish signs on the trade counters of DHFL, Ajanta Pharma, Marksans Pharma, Godavari Power, Tejas Networks, GSFC, OnMobile Global, Jay Bharat Maruti, Crisil, and Hisar Metal Industries.

The most active stocks in terms of value on Monday were RIL, Divi’s Lab, IndusInd Bank, ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, Cipla, Bajaj Finance, Axis Bank, SBI and Infosys.    

The active stocks in volume terms were YES Bank, Vodafone Idea, SBI, Vedanta, PNB, NTPC, BHEL, ICICI Bank, Tata Motors and Federal Bank.

Stocks which showed buying interest were Voltas, Escorts, Adnani Green Energy, Divi’s Lab and Responsive Industries as they rose to a fresh 52 week-high signaling bullish sentiments.

On the other hand, stocks which came under selling pressure were Khaitan Chemicals, WABCO India, Karma Energy, Jump Networks and Mittal Lifestyle with these stocks touching a new 52-week low signaling bearish sentiments.

The news of a Covid-19 vaccine developed by Pfizer Inc and BioNTech SE rekindled hopes of return to normalcy resulting in investors dumping shares of firms that had been winners during global lockdowns and instead went on to hold risk assets.

Zoom Video Communications Inc was down 16 per cent in early trading while Peloton Interactive Inc slumped 13 per cent and Netflix Inc was down by 5 per cent.
