Covid impact: Tax collection falls by 31 per cent in April-June quarter

June 16 : In the current fiscal, Gross Tax Collection fell by 31 per cent till June 15, however advance corporate tax garnered the declining 69 per cent, official sources said on Tuesday.

Gross Tax collection declined 31 per cent to Rs 1,37,825 crores in the first quarter of FY 2021, registering a fall from Rs 1,99,755 crores in June 19 ending quarter, the sources said.

In April and May this year, there was a nation-wide lockdown to prevent the spread of Coronavirus pandemic which resulted in closing down of country’s economic activities.

Even though the lockdown has been lifted, the economy is yet to return back to normalcy and slackness continues even now.

The last day to pay advance tax was June 15.
