Domestic benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty on Tuesday registered losses for the 5th day in a row coming as it did after the US Federation meeting on September 21 resulting in increase in the interest rates.
The 30-share Sensex fell 37.70 points to close at 57,107.52 while its broader peer Nifty50 ended at 17,007.40 down by 8.90 points.
The benchmark indices ended flat on Tuesday due to lack of positive cues. The gains from heavyweights, Reliance, Infosys and TCS were offset by banking and financial stocks.
Among the losers were Tata Steel (fell 2.25 per cent to Rs 97.60, Titan (down 1.79 per cent), SBI (fell 1.39 per cent) and Kotak Mahindra Bank (plunged 1.10 per cent). Besides, Tech Mahindra , ICICI Bank, HDFC and Maruti Suzuki also registered losses.
Among the sectors, Nifty Metal fell 0.86 per cent and Nifty Financial Services came down 0.80 per cent. Nifty Oil & Gas and Nifty IT closed higher. Nifty Midcap50 rose 0.09 per cent and Smallcap50 came down 0.15 per cent.
The Market breadth was in favour of bulls. About 1869 stocks gained, 1537 came down and 134 remained unchanged.
