After losing for three days in succession, benchmark indices rose on Monday with stocks in banking, financial and IT sectors leading the winning stocks. The 30-share Sensex rose 300.44 points to close at 59,141.23 while its broader peer Nifty50 ended at 17,622.25, up by 91.40 points.
M&M gained maximum in the 30-share pack, falling 3.05 per cent to 1288.70. Bajaj Finance, SBI and HUL rose 2.79 per cent, 1.94 per cent and 1.92 per cent respectively. Among the other gainers were Nestle India, Bajaj Finserv, HDFC and ITC.
Among the sectors, Nifty PSU Bank rose 2.03 per cent while Nifty Media went up 1.26 per cent. Nifty Financial Service and Auto closed higher. Nifty Midcap50 ended flat while Smallcap50 fell 0.69 per cent.
