Mumbai : The 30-pack Sensex on Monday touched a high of 48,220.47 and a low of 47,594.47 to finally settle ag 48,176.80.
Sensex recovered nearly 600 points from low and ended 308 points higher while Nifty reached 14,133. ONGC, TCS rose 4 per cent each.
IT stocks and HUL led the market rally. Twenty one of the 30 stocks ended the day in the green.
The Index contributors were TCS, Infosys, HUL, HCL Tech and ICICI Bank.
The top Index gainers were ONGC (4.13 per cent), TCS (3.17 per cent), HCL Teck (3.05 per cent).
Among the top index losers were Kotak Bank (1.19 per cent), Bajaj Finance (1.14 per cent) and Asian Paints (0.72 per cent).
All BSE Sectoral indices except banker and consumer durables ended the day in the green.
S&P BSE METAL was the biggest sectoral gainer, up 5.34 per cent.
S&P BSE Bankex was the biggest sectoral loser, down (0.15 per cent).
Among the volume toppers were RIL, TCS, Bajaj Finance, ICICI Bank, ITC.
Nifty Metal gained over 5 per cent, most since April 30 and was the best sectoral performer.
Nifty IT gained most in over 10 days, all stocks gained except Mphasis.
Nifty PSE gained most in 20 days led by SAIL.
Nifty Auto rose most in a month led by Ashok Leyland.
