Mumbai : The 30-share BSE Sensex index closed 0.42 higher at 41,340 on Thursday amidst\u00a0firm global hues, better quarterly results, good liquidity and hopes of Biden getting elected in the US Presidential elections.<\/p>\n
Experts opined that given the current trend, the Sensex could well cross over 45,000 by next year. The year saw collapse of the economy due to Coronavirus and then came the lockdown\u00a0<\/span>leading to complete closure of all production activities and trade for two months since March. However, there was gradual recovery after the lockdown was lifted and experts have now expressed hope that the Sensex would do well in FY 21.<\/p>\n Despite the bad phase of the economy during the year,\u00a0 <\/span>45 per cent of the stocks have given positive returns to the investors, Market sources said.<\/p>\n At the BSE, small cap Alok Industries rose over 647 per cent to Rs 22.70. With a gain of 400 to 600 per cent, Venus Remedies, Biofil Chemicals and Pharma, Hathway Bhawani Cabletel, Mangalam Drugs and Organics and Adani Green were among the other gainers.<\/p>\n Twelve companies in the Sensex pack delivered positive with IT Majors Infosys and HCL Technologies gaining over 40 per cent each while Reliance Industries, TCS, Asian Paints, Sun Pharma, Nestle, Mahindra and Mahindra, UltraTech Cement, Tech Mahindra, HUL and Titan\u00a0 <\/span>gained between 2 to 30 per cent.<\/p>\n BSE registered a record trading turnover of Rs 2.43 lakh crore on Thursday on its equity derivatives segment, Sensex 50 contracts, on the back of increased volatility due to uncertainty caused by US Presidential election.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n This is the third time that Sensex 50 contracts has crossed the daily trading turnover of Rs 2 lakh crore.<\/p>\n Nifty rose by 211.80 to touch 12120.30.
