June 2 : A deep depression in Arabian Sea has intensified into a cyclonic storm and is likely to make a landfall tomorrow near Alibag which not far from Mumbai, according to India Meteorological Department.<\/p>\n
At the time of landfall, the wind speed is expected to reach around 100 kms per hour. Heavy rainfall with strong gusty winds is expected to occur in Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Pune, Dhule, Nandurbar and Nashik.<\/p>\n
The National Disaster Response Force Team has been sent to Mumbai and suburban areas. This is the for the first time in 100 years when this cyclone named \u201cNisarga’ is expected to hit Mumbai.<\/p>\n
Three teams are already in Mumbai, two each in Raigad and Palghar, one each in Thane and Navi Mumbai. Besides two teams are on way to Raigad and one to Thane. Of the four teams in Raigad, one will be stationed in Alibag.<\/p>\n
Cyclone Nisarga is currently 700 kms of Mumbai and is likely to move towards north in the initial few hours and then take a north-east route and cross Maharashtra and adjoining Gujarat\u00a0 between Harihareshwar and Daman tomorrow afternoon and take form of a severe storm with strong gusty winds speed above 100 kms per hours, IMD sources said.<\/p>\n
The Maharashtra Government has sounded a Red Alert in Mumbai and nearby places like Thane, Palghar and Raigad districts,<\/p>\n
The Union Home Minister Amit Shah spoke to Maharashtra Chief Minister Udhav Thackeray through video conference to take stock of the situation and the state\u2019s preparedness to tackle any eventuality. Steps are being taken to ensure that there is no disruption in power supply at a time when
