Mumbai, May 30 : Marking the first anniversary of BJP-led government\u2019s second term, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said India has marched ahead on the path of victory in its long-term battle against COVID-19 and outlined the progress of the nation in the last one year although he said many challenges lay ahead before the country to go overcome hurdles to improve the economy.<\/p>\n
In an open letter to the people of India on completion of his government in the second term, Modi, however, lamented that migrant workers had to bear sufferings during the pandemic. However, he expressed confidence that India will able to overcome all hurdles and come out of the crisis faced during COVID-19.<\/p>\n
A document released by the government on the occasion said Modi had led a historic battle against corruption and the government had taken important steps such as health for all, powerful resolution to the Ayodhya issue, abrogation of article 370 in J ad K, empowering farmers and traders with pensions, decisive lockdowns during pandemic and the Rs 20 lakh crore economic package announced recently. The reforms introduced by the Modi Government had enabled India to become the fastest growing major economy, the document said.<\/p>\n
Vikas Yatra module is part of the Narendra Modi website and has been updated with fresh details, the document said adding that India\u2019s historic rise in case of doing businesses is based on policies that have replaced the red tape with a red carpet. “Be it foreign policy or National Security, Modi always believes in putting India first,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n
Modi cautioned the people to ensure that the inconveniences experienced by them during the pandemic should not turn into disasters. \u201cI am working day and night. There could be deficiencies in me but there is nothing that our country lacks. I believe in you, your strength and your abilities even more than I believe in myself. India has surprised the world with its unity and resolve in the fight against Coronavirus and there is a firm belief that it will also set an example in economic revival,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Modi said his cabinet had taken oath on this day last year and added that the people of India had voted not merely for continuity but also with the dream of taking India to new heights and making it a global leader.<\/p>\n
However, Congress leader Manish Tiwari was of the view that the past one year of NDA-BJP Government had been absolutely disastrous for India.<\/p>\n
\u201cCommencing with the ill-thought decision of abrogating Article 370 in Kashmir which was primarily in order to fulfill the ideological impulses of the BJP and its predecessor Jansangh, the abrogation created a complete vacuum in J and K in every sense of the word,\u201d the Congress MP said.<\/p>\n
Tiwari alleged that the economy had been completely shattered. The GDP numbers which have come in for the fourth quarter show that the Indian economy is clocking only 3.1 per cent which accounts for only one week of the lockdown. Even without the lockdown, the Indian economy was in “Intensive care unit”, he said. The unemployment figures were high. The Government completely mishandled COVID-19 locking down the country when India had 341 cases and now trying to reopen it when we have over a lakh cases in addition to creating problems for the migrant workers who had to walk home several hundred kms away from their places of work, Toward added.<\/p>\n
