Uzbekistan : Prime Minister Narendra Modi today met Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of Shanghai Cooperation Organization conclave in Samarkand here.
Modi told Putin “We spoke on the phone several times about Indo-Russia bilateral relations and also on other issues. We should try to find ways to address the problems of food, fuel security and fertilizers.”
“I want to thank Russia and Ukraine for helping us (India) to evacuate our students from Ukraine,” he added.
“Today’s era isn’t of war and I have spoken to you about it on the call. Today, we will get the opportunity to talk about how can we progress on the path of peace. India and Russia have stayed together with each other for several decades,” Modi noted.
Putin told Modi “I know about your position on the conflict in Ukraine and also about your concerns. We want all of this to end as soon as possible. We will keep you abreast of what is happening there.”
Meanwhile, leaders of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization called for a “balance” between reducing carbon emissions and allowing poorer states to catch up with economically developed countries.
In a joint statement, the heads of some of the World’s biggest emitters, including China, India and Russia, unanimously recognized the negative consequences of climate change and the need for further action even as they called for increased investment in oil and gas production and exploration.
