Madhya Pradesh has taken the lead to make India self-reliant in Horticulture and Food Processing with expectations of 80,000 people to gain employment from 10500 units, according
to Mr Bharat Singh Kushwaha, Madhya Pradesh Minister for Horticulture and Food Processing.
He was speaking at a conference organized by PHDCCI MP & MP State Agro Development Corporation Ltd.
In this regard, development of farmers is necessary to make India and Madhya Pradesh self-reliant in Horticulture and Food Processing.
Addressing the gathering, Kushwah said the banks should take an active part in this work because this would double the income of farmers and also the state, thereby strengthening the economy of the country.
The minister said plans were afoot to set up processing industry in the same district where the farmer is producing the crop. This would ensure that one district will produce one product. If this concept is adopted, it will improve the rural economy and generate employment at the local level. After Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh has received maximum number of applications regarding food processing units, he disclosed.
Ms Kalpana Shrivastava, Principal Secretary, Horticulture and Food Processing, Madhya Pradesh, focussed on the possibilities of growth of horticulture and food processing in the state.
The Commissioner of Horticulture and Food Processing in Madhya Pradesh, Mr Manoj Kumar Agrawal and Mr Shrikant Bhanot, Managing Director MP Agro, dwelt upon the Prime Minister’s Formulation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises and answered the questions raised by bank representatives and industrialists regarding the scheme.
