With the 9th edition of the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2019 fast approaching, the Government of Gujarat led by Chief Minister Vijay Rupani held the official roadshow for the Summit at the Trident Hotel in Mumbai today.

Addressing a room filled with key industrialists of the country and senior government officials, Chief Minister Rupani laid out the theme and focus for the 9th edition of the biennial summit, which is ‘Shaping a New India’.

Addressing the audience, Chief Minister Vijay Rupani said Vibrant Gujarat has contributed greatly to the overall growth of the state. The Summit was originally conceptualized to rope in investments and build Gujarat’s image as a business friendly destination. Today, the Summit has grown into a knowledge sharing platform, where world leaders deliberate on pressing global issues.The Summit also allows not just Gujarat but other states as well to come together and position India as a lucrative investment destination to the global business community.

Speaking about the humble beginning of Gujarat in 1960 as a semi-arid state, with weak infrastructure and limited industrial exposure, he said that the state fought all odds to become India’s fastest developing state. He also spoke about the connection between Maharashtra and Gujarat, and said the two states together are the drivers of Indian economy.

He added that the policy driven approach of Gujarat government has helped the state provide an extremely conducive environment to the growth of industries in the state and Gujarat now offers ‘Feel of Doing Business,’ apart from Ease of Doing Business.

Chief Secretary, JN Singh spoke of Gujarat’s next phase of development, for which work is already underway. He said that Gujarat is now developing futuristic infrastructure projects such as the Special Investment Regions at Dholera and Mandal-Becharaji; GIFT City; PCPIR; Coastal Economic Zone in Kutchh; Ahmedabad Mumbai Bullet Train as well as India’s first 1 GW offshore wind energy park. The new and upcoming developments such as the Ahmedabad Metro Rail, commercial development on Sabarmati Riverfront, Surat Dream City, and up-gradation of Bus Terminals, are designed to support the next phase of urban development in Gujarat.

Gujarat has set an example for rest of the states of the nation as to how investment opportunities could be explored and employment can be generated by laying proactive policies for investment. Vibrant Gujarat is providing an opportunity for other states to interact with the global business community, which will eventually benefit their state.

Principal Secretary (Industries) Shri MK Das spoke about the business opportunities in the state and about the different initiatives that the government has undertaken for infrastructure development including upgradation of roads, railway networks, ports, power supply, gas and water grids.
